Materials & Care

General guidance on jewellery materials and care. The material information on each product page always takes precedence over this page.

Last updated: September 2026

Which information wins

The specific material and care details for each piece are stated on that product's page and may change over time. If anything on this page and the product page disagree, always follow the product page.

Materials used

Pieces are made from materials that can include stainless steel, gold-plated steel or brass, and sterling silver, sometimes set with stones such as zirconia, turquoise, sapphire, pearl or amber.

Whether a piece is plated, solid, or set with a natural stone is stated per product. We make no material claim for a piece beyond what its product page states.

What we do not claim

We do not describe pieces as waterproof, hypoallergenic, nickel-free, non-tarnishing, or as solid gold, 925 silver or natural gemstone unless the specific product data supports it.

How a material behaves can depend on your skin and daily habits, so treat general care advice as guidance rather than a guarantee.

Wearing and tarnishing

Metals and platings can tarnish or wear over time depending on your skin chemistry, the climate and how often you wear a piece.

Plated pieces have a thin coating that can fade with hard wear or frequent contact with water and cosmetics.

Water, showers and swimming

Remove your jewellery before swimming, showering, bathing or heavy cleaning. Extended contact with water, chlorine, salt water and soaps can dull platings and damage stones.

Perfume and cosmetics

Apply perfume, lotion, sunscreen and hair products before you put on your jewellery, and let them dry. They can leave residue that dulls the finish and speeds up wear.

Cleaning

Clean gently with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. For a deeper clean use lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, then rinse, dry and polish gently.

Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, harsh chemicals and abrasive cloths.

Storage

Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or its original box to avoid scratches and tangling. Keep jewellery away from direct sunlight, strong heat and humidity where possible.

Extending the life of your jewellery

Take pieces off before sleep and physical activity, keep them dry, and check fastenings from time to time. With regular care, most of our pieces can be enjoyed for years.

Sensitive skin

If your skin reacts to certain metals, mention it when you order. Whether a piece can be made differently depends on that specific product, and we will advise you based on its data.
